Rwanda April 11, 1994: 5 days in, tens of thousands slaughtered

5 days after the death of President Habyatimana the International Red Cross estimated that tens of thousands had lost their lives, slaughtered in what was surely a pre-planned massacre. On this day United Nations troops guarding 2,000 Tutsis at a school were ordered to withdraw to Kigali airport. It was an order from New York (U.N HQ)where there were concerns over a repetition of the Somalian crisis. It is reported that the Tutsis were subsequently killed after this. And so the killers saw the immunity of the "international community." They had further confidence to commit unspeakable crimes. The Red cross has an extensive report on their work and occurences in Rwanda.
